Maryland Businesses:

  • *Per Maryland law, businesses must provide:

    • A resale certificate which is a written statement that you provide stating that the merchandise or taxable service you buy will be resold in a taxable sale or that it will be incorporated into tangible personal property or used in a service that will be taxed when it is sold. Although there is no specific form in Maryland, a resale certificate must include:

      • a signed statement that the purchase is intended for resale,

      • the purchaser's name and address, and

      • the purchaser's Maryland sales and use tax registration number

NOTE: Your sales and use tax registration number is an eight digit number that has been assigned to your business. You'll find your registration number on your Maryland sales and use tax returns and/or on your sales and use tax license.

If you frequently deal with the same supplier, you may provide that supplier with a blanket resale certificate stating that all purchases are for resale. Then all you have to do is give the supplier your sales and use tax registration number.

A resale certificate can be generated through the Maryland Tax Connect portal.

Sample Statement:

Please provide your statement or message us the statement with the required information.

Maryland does not permit out-of-state businesses from receiving resale, non-taxed purchases, unless the business holds a Maryland sales and use tax registration number.

Once we receive the verified form(s), we will deduct the tax from your online order(s) and you will be refunded the tax amount.

Maryland Farmers:

Please be careful in determining a farming exemption. When sold for agricultural purposes, seeds (including plants and seedlings) are exempt. If a farmer buys seedlings/plants to plant to grow lavender for a lavender farming business, that would be exempt. If the farmer is using the plants for their own home enjoyment, that is NOT exempt. Please see information provided by the Comptroller of Maryland.

Pennsylvania Businesses:

Wildwood Lavender Farm also has a business license in Pennsylvania and we collect PA sales tax.

PA requires the reselling business to complete a Pennsylvania Exemption Certificate. Please complete the form and message us your request with the form attached. Most PA businesses will use #3 for resale or #1 as a farm.

Once we receive the verified form(s), we will deduct the tax from your online order(s) and you will be refunded the tax amount.

NOTE: We are not tax experts. We are sharing information gathered from knowledge gained from making a lot of mistakes. Please consult your business tax expert. Wildwood Lavender Farm LLC reserves the right to refuse tax exemption to anyone at our discretion. If, audited and the IRS determines tax was not exempt, we retain the right to collect the tax from the customer.
